THE CYCLES

TEAM MEMBERS

BARRON JOHNSTON

Barron has been enchanted by bikes since childhood. He was an all-weather commuter, mechanic, educator and advocate in Philadelphia, before moving to the Bay in 2020. He enjoys helping others conjure confidence and demystify their derailleurs, to make muscles and memories. With Cycles of Change, Barron is eager to expand the ranks of cyclists who demand safer roadways, environmental urban design, and investments in public health.

DART FIERCE KAUFMAN

Dart fierce Kaufman is a mixed terrain rider who rolls deep with Cycles of Change. As a Bicycle Educator, Collective Collaborator, Mechanic & Bike Club exploration leader Dart loves all that is bikes, kids & adventure. Dart is a licensed League Cycling Instructor(LCI) and wants you to be safe while riding. In 2021 they will race with the WTF Bikexplorers Gravel Team.

DIEGO ARANA

Diego (He/Him) was born in Watsonville, CA, and moved up to the Bay when he was 17. He is a capoeira, practical, touring, commuter, educator, mindful cyclist, and a parent who loves combining his passions! In 2013 he went on a fifteen-month bike tour from Berkeley, CA to Bahia, Brazil to spread the word about capoeira and meet others in the capoeira community. Most recently, in 2019, he helped lead a bike tour that guided 25 of East Oakland’s youth on a 320-mile life-changing experience propelled by their will.

EUGENE KANG

Eugene (he/him) joined Cycles after connecting with staff through a class at Merritt College over fifteen years ago. He remains deeply committed to our community-based and youth-centered work through serving Cycles as a Bike Club co-coordinator and educator. Throughout his time at Cycles, Eugene has seen the powerful ways in which bikes connect people not only to each other, but to their own selves, the world, and the places they live and work. Eugene believes community is at our heart, and connection is what drives us.

JUSTIN AGUINALDO

Justin loves cycling, environmental conservation, educating, and operations. Cycles of Change is an ideal place to use his experiences from co-founding a messenger coop in NYC, teaching people to build their own bamboo bikes in SF, and helping to establish a bamboo bike factory in Ghana. Justin is immensely grateful to be part of a passionate group of diverse folks on a mission to support safe cycling in the East Bay.

MARIO ROSERO

Mario Rosero (he/him) is one of our Cycles veterans and has been with us for more than 15 years! Mario is grateful to work for an organization with horizontal leadership and self-motivated work. He enjoys the freedom it gives him and the autonomy it allows us as a staff collective to get things done on our own terms. Aside from biking, Mario is a “mountaineer” – he loves backpacking as well as practicing medical qigong.

NATALIE RAMOS

Natalie Ramos (they/she) was born and raised in Oakland and recently moved back to the city after spending a few formative years in Seattle, WA. They are grateful for the intersection of education, movement, and community that working at Cycles of Change brings into their life. Natalie is slowly entering the world of gardening and is hoping to grow an abundance of herbs, vegetables and flowers around their home. She also enjoys reading, playing soccer, and watching animated movies and shows.

PHOENIX MANGUM

Phoenix has been a collective member and educator with cycles of change for 8 years. He teaches in the Upcycle program (an adult urban bike safety program), as well as in the Drive Your Bike program with elementary, middle and high school students. Some of his favorite classes to teach are the bike rodeos with the k-3 graders.

SAN SAEPHAN

Hello, my name is San Saephan. I grew up in East Oakland and love to ride my bike. I enjoy supporting other POC community members to have access to bikes.

TAJ BRADFORD

Taj (he/him) was born and raised in East Oakland and has been biking all his life but started getting serious about it when he first started coming to The Bikery as a middle schooler. Now he is a Bikery mechanic and bike club educator! “If it wasn’t for the Bikery helping me throughout the years, I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my biking career so I’m willing to help them as much as they’ve helped me.”
