The UpCycle program empowers Oakland residents through education and distribution of bicycles as a low-cost, environmentally-friendly, reliable form of transportation. Since our last newsletter, UpCycle offered two four-hour safety classes to 50 participants who were in need of low-cost transportation to access vital resources. Armed with bike safety knowledge, participants also left with all of the equipment needed to commute by bike: a fully refurbished bike, a helmet, lights, lock and map to local bike pathways!
UpCycle proudly partnered up with BOSS (Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency), Lincoln Square Recreation Center and Allen Temple Baptist Church!
BOSS is a local Bay Area organization that provides numerous services for low-income and formerly incarcerated folks to help them to resettle in their home communities.
Lincoln Square Recreation Center: UpCycle offered bike safety classes in Mandarin and will offer them once or twice a month beginning in 2018!
Allen Temple Baptist Church: For the second consecutive year, we participated in Allen Temple’s 40th annual holistic health fair, where we gave away 15 bikes!
